Nurturing Baby Care at Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery Horsham

At Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery Horsham, we are committed to providing a caring and secure environment where your baby can thrive from the very beginning. Our knowledgeable team, trained in infant care and early years development, takes time to understand each child’s unique routines, interests and developmental stage, ensuring truly individualised care.

With a 1:3 staff-to-child ratio, we are able to give every baby consistent attention and reassurance, building strong bonds that help them feel safe, settled and confident. We work closely with families to maintain continuity between home and nursery, supporting a smooth and positive transition.

Our approach to early learning centres around the three prime areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage: physical development, communication and language, and personal, social and emotional growth. Throughout the day, babies are encouraged to explore through sensory experiences, music, stories and movement-based activities that strengthen both fine and gross motor skills. Open spaces allow for free movement, helping little ones develop coordination and independence at their own pace.

Outdoor experiences are an important part of daily life, with opportunities for fresh air, nature discovery, local outings and early forest school activities that nurture curiosity and wellbeing. To balance active learning, we provide a peaceful sleep and sensory room, a calm, softly lit space designed to promote relaxation, support sensory awareness and ensure restful sleep.

What Makes Us Special

A Safe, Stimulating, and Purpose-Built Space for Babies

Outdoor Play and Exploration

Babies benefit from safe, supervised outdoor play in our secure garden, with free-flow access that allows them to move naturally between indoor and outdoor environments with our staff. Outdoor learning plays an important role in supporting their wellbeing and fostering an early appreciation of nature.

They take part in a variety of age-appropriate experiences, including ride-on toys, mark-making, ball play and parachute games, as well as outings and early forest school activities. These enriching outdoor opportunities help to strengthen gross motor skills, build coordination and confidence, and encourage early social development, all while enjoying fresh air, movement and exploration.

Cosy Sleep and Rest Time

Our dedicated sleep and sensory room offers a calm, dark and peaceful environment where babies can rest, relax and recharge. Carefully designed to support early sensory development, the space provides a soothing atmosphere that helps little ones feel secure and settled. Cots are available for younger babies, while older babies are supported with low-level beds, encouraging smooth and gentle transitions as they grow and become more independent.

Soft lighting, a quiet ambience and consistent routines help create a comforting space that promotes deep, restful sleep. By recognising each baby’s individual sleep patterns and needs, we ensure they have the time and reassurance they need to wake feeling refreshed, content and ready to continue their day of exploration and learning.

Mealtimes and Social Development

Mealtimes are a meaningful and enjoyable part of the day, providing opportunities for learning, connection and growing independence. We carefully support formula-fed and breastfed babies by following their home routines, ensuring consistency and comfort while they eat.

During mealtimes, babies are encouraged to gain confidence with self-feeding, while our experienced staff are on hand to assist, guide, and observe closely throughout. This hands-on support ensures each child feels safe and supported as they develop their skills and independence at their own pace.

All meals are thoughtfully planned by an early years nutritionist, providing the balanced nutrients needed to support healthy growth and development.
