A Day In Our Nursery
What’s Been Happening At Our Nursery
Yesterday, we took part in significant activities to commemorate Remembrance Day. I shared stories with the children about the brave soldiers and animals, highlighting how we honour their sacrifices. At eleven o`clock, the children observed a minute`s silence, lying quietly on the floor like Sleeping Bunnies, and I felt incredibly proud of them!
We also enjoyed colouring poppy pictures and made lovely poppy prints by using a half an apple dipped in red paint. Finally, we added black paint to the centre of the poppy with our index fingers🍁🍁
This week included various engaging activities, with the pumpkin shape sorter as a highlight. Children enthusiastically explored shapes, sizes, and numbers, enhancing their fine motor skills. In the Halloween cookie activity, they enjoyed the ingredients` texture while discussing size, shape, and taste, promoting creativity and spatial awareness. This supported their: **Fine Motor Skills**: **Gross Motor Skills**: Afterwards, staff and children dressed up to talk about trick or treat, followed by a delightful story time about Halloween celebrations. They also shared a special lunch and tea, fostering a communal experience 🦇🦇🎃🎃👻👻
We organized a practical life activity where children used real utensils to cut real vegetables. This experience was designed to:
• 🧠 Develop fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination
• 🥄 Teach safe handling of kitchen tools
• 🥦 Encourage healthy eating habits through sensory exploration
• 👥 Foster independence and confidence🫛🥔
Diwali Celebration 🪔
Today, we celebrated the Diwali Festival by learning its significance and traditions. The children enjoyed exploring Henna painting, expressing their creativity through bright colours and beautiful designs, and developing their fine motor skills.
We also shared traditional sweets and decorative Diyas with parents and staff to spread festive cheer. It was a joyful and educational day for everyone!

The children loved exploring the wonderful items they found on their autumn hunts! We began by sitting together and talking about all the treasures they brought in — including conkers, colourful leaves, and acorns. Using PVA glue and spreaders, we worked together to create a big autumn collage, adding some card leaves and fun feathers too! The children used their fine motor skills beautifully to spread the glue and problem-solve how to stick their items down. Fantastic teamwork and creativity, everyone!🍀🍃🍁
The children have been thoroughly enjoying messy play recently. Today, they took part in a fun “potions” activity, where they spent around five minutes exploring a range of textures and materials. They enthusiastically filled and emptied containers, using spoons to scoop, pour, and mix a variety of ingredients in their buckets. The children experimented with different combinations, showing curiosity and creativity as they observed how the materials changed when mixed together.
Autumn Nature Hunt 🍂
This week the children enjoyed taking part in an Autumn themed scavenger hunt in the garden.
They worked together to look for different colour leaves, pine cones, acorns and other Autumnal objects.

Today, the children had a fantastic time playing with colourful rice in four vibrant shades: purple, green, red, and yellow. We focused on exploring different colours and textures, which really helped enhance our sensory experiences. To support the children’s development, we added spoons to the mix. This not only made the activity fun but also boosted their skills for mealtime. The activity involved several key areas of development: - **Physical Development:** The children practised fine motor skills by scooping the rice and picking up tiny grains with their fingers. - **Speech and Language:** As they explored, we named the colours, and many children began to express their observations. - **Expressive Arts and Design:** The activity allowed for creativity as they played with the various colours 🌾🌾

This week, the children really enjoyed the Play-Doh activity! They learned so much, developing fine motor skills and coordination while fostering creativity and problem-solving. Additionally, it helped expand their vocabulary through descriptive play and strengthened their social-emotional skills, like cooperation and self-expression😊😊

How To Find Monkey Puzzle Horsham
Monkey Puzzle Day Nursery Horsham, is proudly located in the heart of Horsham in the RH13 postal sector. The nursery is on Godwin Road, on the site of the old Roffey Youth Centre. We’re just round the corner from the Roffey Post Office and The Master Fryer. Horsham Railway Station is a 20 minute walk away and a short drive from the A264.
Opening times: 7:30am to 6:30pm
Monday to Friday for 51 weeks per year, (closed for the week between
Christmas and New Year)
